Story
My name is Rebecca Attridge and I have just left college.
Through a number of unpredictable events I am now in the Finals of Miss Teen Queen UK 2011. And with this comes a fantatsic opportunity.
The competition has a section called Miss Charity Queen, which encourages the contestants to raise money for the events charity - The MAD Foundation. I have always wanted to make a difference and now I have a fantastic starting point.
So begins my campaign to help this wonderful charity. Here is an overview on what they do...
- The MAD Foundation partner with communities in developing countries including Ghana, Kenya, Thailand, Peru, Vietnam, Uganda, Tanzania, Fiji and India.
- Since 1998, the charity has completed over 300 community projects including building/renovating classrooms, toilets/latrines, storm drains, an HIV clinic, orphanages, houses, water tanks, greenhouses and tree planting.
- They work with village chiefs, village development committees and NGOs as well as local, national and international charities to ensure that as much local knowledge as possible is gained and aid the economic development of local communities.
The work they do is vast and inspiring. Please support me with my fundraising schemes and donate so that people can have their lives enriched by this wonderful charity.
My fundraising plans so far are:
- To do a sponsored cycle 847 miles (the distance from John O Groats to Lands End) in the course of two weeks. (It takes professional cyclists about 9-11 days to do this normally).
- Massive 2nd hand book sale in my home town of Farnborough.
- Bag packing at my local TESCO store.
