Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the afternoon of the 10 June 2013, a parents worst nightmare happened. Luca, our 10 year old son was hit by a van.
Luca sustained significant injuries from the collision and following treatment and stabilisation by the ambulance crews and the Heli-Med team, he was flown direct to the specialist trauma unit at the Royal London hospital. This meant Luca could receive the best possible care within the fastest time, which is what any parent would wish for. Thankfully Luca is making a remarkable recovery from two severley broken legs and already able to walk and cycle.
Unlike NHS emergency servies, the Herts Air Ambulance, part of the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust is a Charity providing a free life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Service. This was a fact that our family were unaware of until Luca's accident.
This life saving charity must raise an incredibile 5.3 million a year to sustain its service. The cost of each rescue averages out at £2,500 per rescue but the value to anyone in crisis and needing their help is priceless.
My motivation to walk the Great Wall of China is not only to give back something to the charity for helping Luca but also to raise the awareness of others that this life saving free service needs donations to keep running and saving lives.
