Story
MYA's Mountain Girls
This summer, myself and Catherine Hughes are attempting the national Three Peaks Challenge. This consists
of climbing Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Scotland, Scafell Pike, the highest
in England and Snowdon, the highest in Wales – all in just 24 hours!
We are doing this in order to raise money and awareness for Young Minds UK. With all the 21st century pressures of society, social media and technology it is becoming increasingly important to look after the mental health of our young people. One in ten children and young people, aged 5-16, suffer from a diagnosable mental health problem such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder. That’s an average of three children in every classroom. Young Minds makes sure young people get the best possible mental health support and have resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.
Two years ago, I completed The Isle of Wight Challenge, walking the circumference of the island, a total of 65miles. It was challenging but rewarding. I now feel it’s time to try an even more challenging event. I’m confident that I can cope with walking the distance, but I’m not sure about all that elevation – the uphill part!
Young Minds UK is a fantastic charity to be raising funds for. Young people between the ages of 5 and 16 are put under a great amount of
pressure to do well, achieve and fit in with the ‘norm’. A close relative of
mine suffered with anxiety at the age of 13-14 and the positive change that was achieved once they received support from a professional was amazing.
Please donate as much or as little as you can. Every penny helps.
