Story
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2013, I will be running the London Marathon for Acorns Children's Hospice in memory of my sister, Michelle, and I'd like to take a moment to share her story with you.
On Sunday 27th May 1984 a baby girl came into the world a few weeks too soon. Doctors were so concerened about the health complications she developed as a result of being premature that they gave her barely a week to live.
However, in the stubborn "I'll-do-it-my-way" Fasham style, that weekend passed, and so did many more. Michelle surpassed expectation after expectation and came home.
Life would not quite be the same as it was for most, and at times it would not be easy, but fighting for it would most definitely be worth it.
Within the next seven years, three more siblings joined her. My older brothers, Paul and James, and then me. With the hard work and care from our parents, and some amazing support from Acorns and Sandwell Multicare, we all grew up happy and loved.
In 2006 Michelles health began to deteriorate, and unfortunately on the 16th June she passed away aged 22.
To say that it left both myself and my family devastated would be an understatement.
Michelle was one of the first children to spend time at the Acorns centre in Selly Oak, and she had many happy weeks there throughout her life. She painted, she got sang to, she met Princess Diana and she got to spend her final days in a place where she was comfortable.
All this was down to some truely exceptional people that often get over looked.
Acorns Children's Hospice provides specialist care and support to families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for families that are facing much tougher challenges than most.
I've experienced just a small part of what this charity can offer and I don't know of many people in this world who would have the strength to do what they do each day. They are kind, compassionate, and incredibly motivated people that really make a difference to families like mine.
It's time now for me to give something back, so I'm digging out my running shoes and dragging myself through all 26 3/4 miles (even if I have to crawl) of the London Marathon next year for Acorns. I have pledged to raise a minimum of £2,500 and I need your help to get there!
It's not an easy feat, and I know it'll take a lot of hard work, but this charity deserves every single penny you can afford to donate, so please share this story far and wide to help me get there.
Thank You x
