Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We know we're not exactly running a marathon, but 10K is proving to be a definite challenge for us. We're training hard and would really appreciate your support.

We're raising money for a cause that's close to Harriet's heart... "A few years ago, in November 2008, my mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour. It was on her main artery, the size of a satsuma and located in the cavity behind her nose. The doctors told her that because of its location and size, they could not perform a biopsy and worst of all, the tumour was inoperable. Our family life changed over night.

"Several more surgeons were contacted and one believed he could remove it, but with the operation would come several life-changing risks. The most prominent of these risks was the danger of paralysis in one side of the body and the face. However, the amazing and wonderful surgeons at Sunderland Royal Hospital managed to remove the tumour, giving my mum and family our lives back.

"She now has a scar that runs from under her chin to the back of her ear from where they accessed the tumour and suffers from lymphedema, a small price to pay to live a healthy life. Lymphedema is the build-up of fluid in soft body tissues when the lymph system is damaged or blocked, and as a result my mum has to get regular treatment for her face and scar to stop this becoming an issue."

The charity we are raising money for is St Cuthbert's Hospice in Durham, where she goes to get her treatment. It is run purely by volunteers and survives on donations given by kind and generous people like yourselves.

They provide love, care and support to so many people and their families, and they have been there for my family through all of this, from diagnosis to today, and for that I will be eternally grateful. Please if you could spare just a few pounds it really would mean a lot!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
