Story
Thank you for visiting my page.... On March 3rd, I am attempting to run/walk/stagger round the Bath half marathon, despite a serious lack of training!
The reason I am doing this, is in memory of a friend, colleague and role model, Jackie Orme. Jackie hired me at PepsiCo many years ago, and since then has challenged, motivated and inspired me to be my best. Without a doubt, it is Jackie who enabled me to acheive the work & balance I have today.
Sadly, after only being diagnosed in late 2011, Jackie lost her fight against pancreatic cancer on 19th July 2012. Jackie fought this dreadful disease with courage, dignity and determination. Qualiities that those who knew her would recognise only too well.
Pancreatic Cancer is known as the silent killer. By the time it is diagnosed it is usually too late. Although not one of the most common cancers, it is one of the biggest killers. Despite progress on so many other cancers in recent decades, pancreatic cancer survival rates are today no better than they were 50 years ago. There has been an almost criminal lack of progress on pancreatic cancer and having seen this wonderful person suffer so, it is time to change this. With recent developments in genetics and immunotherapy, it feels at last that significant progress is within our grasp against this terrible disease.
