Story
This November I will be going to Guayaguil, Ecuador to run a programme of Participatory Arts workshops with street children. I will be working voluntarily for Charlotte Miller Art Project (CMAP uk charity Registered charity no. 1064645) in conjunction with Ecuadorian NGO Juconi. Our involvement is facilitated by ICYE UK.
CMAP offers children the opportunity to explore different creative disciplines which help to increase confidence and communication, and aid cathartic expression and personal development. I specialise in Participatory Photography and will be working with Chloe, another CMAP Arts Educator who specialises in Drama.
The workshops will involve children who live in extreme poverty, most of whom live in slums and work as street vendors. Through Juconi and CMAP these children are given the opportunity to resolve familial issues, find alternatives to street-involvement and express their feelings in a positive, creative way.
85% of Juconi kids leave street life
96% of Juconi kids integrate into mainstream schooling, many for the first time
I need money to make the workshops happen!!
Thank you all for your support - both financial and moral!
