Story
The Kelly's with your support continue on my Dad's quest to raise £16k for St. Ann's Hospice (we are at £13.5k).
My Dad's final wish was to raise money to say thank you the care he received and for the extra memories we got to make as a family in some very dark months.
Why £16k? St. Ann's Hospice need £16k in donations per day to open the doors and only a third of their funding is from the NHS. This was the amount in 2016 when my Dad passed away (they now need £20k in donations per day!)
So my challenge this year, knowing I’ve tapped some of you up a number of times over the last 2 years is three fold to ensure you’re getting value for your donation! Also remembering i’m not the fastest or the fittest, and I’m doing the events in completely the wrong order for where I am in my training.
29 July - Salford Standard Tri (1mile, swim, 40k cycle, 10k Run)
11 August - Tatton Park 10k
September date TBC - Wilmslow, Nantwich or St.Helen’s sprint triathlon (750m swim, 20k cycle, 5k Run)
St. Ann's Hospice make a huge difference to hundreds of families across Greater Manchester. A recent survey highlighted only one in four people get access/a place at a hospice (in the UK) when they need it!
St.Ann's help patients manage pain relief often not achieved in a home or hospital setting, they provide holistic and physio therapies (my Dad walked for the first time in several months), along with a hairdresser/barber, so patients can still feel human and do 'normal' things. They allow visitors around the clock, plus provide overnight accommodation so families and friends can share the remaining days and hours with their loved ones. The list goes on for what they do for the person dieing ensuring they maintain independence and dignity, but also the families and carers from giving 24 hour access to counselling before and after the bereavement.
