Story

For anyone who knows me, will know this is something I'd never usually do! I have no experience in running at all and now I have just over three months to train myself to be able to run 10k. Me and exercise don't really go, but this is such an amazing charity & when I was asked by a very close friend to run this with her, I couldn't say no, this charity does so much for so many people. Please keep reading this story to give a me chance to explain;

The statistics for stillbirth and neonatal death in the UK are shocking and new research has revealed that the UK has one of the highest stillbirth rates in the developed world; 17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth every single day, yet very little is being done to bring this horrific number down. This figure is totally unacceptable and sands have been working hard to raise awareness of stillbirth and newborn baby death, not only with the media but also amongst the government and policy makers.

The very nature of their work means that are dealing daily with bereaved parents; their families and friends, all of whom are struggling to come to terms with the death of their angel baby. They are equally dedicated to working with midwives and doctors to improve the bereavement care they provide to bereaved parents, as well as promoting much needed research to reduce the numbers of babies dying.

That is why support and fundraising such as this are so valuable to them as they depend almost solely on the extraordinary energies and generosity of supporters to raise the funds they need each year to deliver the wide range of services that we offer across the UK.

At Sands their mission is to:

• support anyone affected by the death of a baby;

• work with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services provided to bereaved parents and their families;

• promote changes in antenatal practice and fund research that could help to reduce the loss of babies' lives.

Sands is determined to meet the growing need for our support services. With your help they believe we can also prevent more babies from dying.

No parent should ever have to say goodbye to their child. As a new mummy myself, this has really affected me. I feel so lucky to have such a healthy happy baby girl. But many parents don't get the same opportunity. Please help us raise money for all the angels born sleeping and to support the heartbreak of all those families who have lost the most precious thing life can give them.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I would be so grateful if you could sponsor me!
