Story
Back in June I went with a group of Year 8's on a school activity trip to Spain. One of my friends Amber-Leigh Mullins was not well during our time away. She was often tired and not wanting to do very much. The day after we came back she had a blood test at Southend Hospital and they found out the reason why she hadn't been feeling well - she had Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She is 13, the same as me. I was really shocked when I found out. I couldn't believe it. She is so nice and it really didn't seem fair! She is being treated at University College London mainly and I think she's been so brave. She HATES needles and she's had to have a lot of those! She never complains about the pain I know she must be in. She always says she's 'fine thank you'! I've known Amber-Leigh since we were about 8, I think. We met at dancing and now we have musical theatre class at Junior Masters in Rayleigh together, and also go to the same secondary school.
I'm not very good at 'doing things' but I knew I had a way of raising money as I'd done it before and it was through having my long hair cut. I would like to raise money for The Teenage Cancer Trust. It makes a difference to people of an in-between age - us teenagers. They do research into teenage cancers, have special teenage cancer units in hosptals and specially trained nurses and doctors, and also do practical things like support families. I am also raising money for the Little Princess Trust, which is where I shall send my hair. I am having my hair cut on Friday, 14th October at Toppers in Rayleigh by Rachael Bunn. I hope Amber-Leigh will be able to sit with me on Friday but she is in London starting a new very powerful chemotherapy treatment and she might not feel up to being there.
