Story
This October Me (Dicky) and my brother in law (Alex) will be attempting to circumnavigate the entire UK in only 48 hours in a 43 year old sports car that was unreliable when it was new!
We will be attempting to cover about 2000 miles from London to Scotland, Wales to Lands End and back to London in just 2 days. We will be doing it in a two seat 1973 Triumph GT6 so it is going to be hot and cramped for us and its 2 litre straight 6 engine will be very thirsty for fuel (don’t worry, none of our costs come from the donations). After discovering this car forgotten about and unloved I have spent the last few years restoring and upgrading it specifically for this rally. The car itself is shown on this page before I started stripping off all the paint for a respray so this event will be the big reveal!
This is an event organised by Club Triumph, my classic car club, and will be in its 50th year this year. This is a big event and there are about 150 different Triumphs entering this year. However, this is not a competitive event/race, this is an endurance rally simply to prove that our cars (and their drivers) can manage the non-stop demands of this grueling drive as we can’t afford too many stops (accept to fix breakdowns!) and we’ll be taking it in turns to sleep and surviving on scotch eggs.
We will be collecting for Guide Dogs for the Blind - a charity that I give to myself and have a lot of time for as they work towards improving people’s quality of life here at home… and also they have dogs!
Any donations are much appreciated and will be going to a good cause.
