We prepare the ParalympicsGB team to help their success inspire the nation

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 11 June 2011 I'll be at the start line in John O'Groats to see whether nine months of training through wind, rain, ice, snow, hail, thunder, lightning and a bit of sunshine has put me in the shape to take on what I suspect will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I will join hundreds of other cyclists as we depart from John O'Groats on a nine day journey cycling 950 miles to Lands End.  Our route, which will take us through the hills of Scotland and England, will in total climb further than twice the height of Everest.  We'll be cycling 100+ miles a day and camping overnight.  The Deloitte Ride Across Britain is organised by the same folk that have put together some ofthe recent Sport Relief challenges.

The event itself is in support of the GB Paralympics team and the Ride Across Britain is aiming to raise £1 million to support ParalympicsGB between now and 2013, and they’re already well on the way with over £365,847 raised in Deloitte RAB 2010.

ParalympicsGB have one chance to ensure that Britain’s Paralympians receive the best possible preparations to compete, and win, against the rest of the world in front of the home crowds. Through these performances they have one opportunity to inspire change in the way people think, feel and behave towards disability and inspire a new generation of people with a disability to get in to sport, but they need help to provide the world class support British disabled athletes need.

I also want to use the event to try to raise money for Epilepsy Society and Greatwood - a  a charity caring for retired racehorses and children with special needs.

Thank you so much for your support, I'm sure every penny will help make a difference to all the charities work.

Ian
