Story
On Thursday 8th April I'm going to get up early and walk to the North Pole! No, really I am.
Four of us, (including my ancient father Nick) under the guidence of 9 time polar conqurer and ex Royal Marine Charlie Paton are walking from Ice Station Barneo, at 89 degrees north, to the geographical North Pole. We then will have a shot at making it back to the Ice Station again in our 13 day 200km round trip.
Challenges aside from the graulling journey itself are polar bears, temperature ranges of -15 to -40 degrees, 24 hours of day-light and the ever present threat of falling in the freezing water.
I am aiming to raise £5,000 for Macmillan and Help for Heroes. They are charities I have chosen because they have done so much for people close to me - MacMillan for the care received by my grandfather before he died last year and Help for Heroes through my invovlement with the Officer Training Corps in Manchester.
Please, dig deep into your pockets and make donation.
Help for Heroes strives towards 100% effectiveness – the charity is fully funded by the sale of merchandise so, for every £1 donated, £1 will go directly to helping wounded Servicemen and women. They spend every penny possible on making grants that aim to provide practical, direct support for our wounded. They deliver a comprehensive pathway to help launch wounded, injured and sick personnel launch back into the next phase of their lives.
