Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June of this year I’ll be completing the Lands End to John O’Groats Cycle Challenge. Averaging 75 miles each day I’ll cycle about 1100 miles in 15 days and will no doubt complete the whole experience whilst dressed in the type of fashionable high visibility Lycra bodywear made famous by Dancing on Ice.
No it’s not a holiday or an opportunity to sample the many Malts of the Highlands. On the contrary, the frost bite I’ve developed training over the winter period has made my ear lobes snap off and I am assured by those who know, that I can look forward to developing impressive festering saddle sores and the odd broken collar bone. I promise to stay positive whilst I’m eaten alive by the cloud of midges. They will inevitably follow us through the whole of Bonny Bloody Scotland and down as far as the impressive hazy turrets of Avonmouth Power Station until finally leaving us, but only, I fear, when temporarily distracted by the 100 mile an hour headwind on the M5.
I’m not doing all that for ruddy nothing so get your hands in your pockets and support my commendable endeavour. The only thing that will get me through those endless deep fried Mars bars and Cornish pasties will be the knowledge that every penny I raise will go to a very worthwhile cause.
I’ve been supporting the British Heart Foundation (BHF) for several years now and regularly meet people who’ve been affected by heart disease. Last week I met a beautiful 3 year old girl called Scarlet who wouldn’t have been alive if it wasn’t for the life saving operation she’d had at 20 months. The operation was made possible by Heart Foundation research. Every year the BHF spend 70 million on research and every year their efforts make a difference. In fact our chances of contracting Coronary Heart Disease are reducing at a pretty steady rate of about 5% per year.
Cardio Vascular Disease is still; however, the UK’s biggest killer. After all this exercise I clearly have no intention of having a heart attack and so in effect I’m doing this sodden bike ride to save you lot from dying. That would be a shame, as I like you, so please help me to keep going, give generously and help save a few lives along the way.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the British Heart Foundation and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thanks so much for taking time out to consider a donation.
