Thank you all for your generous donations! 38 of us raised a total of £110,000! Best wishes Sir Peter
In October I will be cycling over 310 km from London to Paris to raise funds and awareness for charity Transaid.
Transaid is an international development charity that aims to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods across Africa and the developing world through improving transport. It was founded by Save the Children and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport of which I’m the President in 2011/2012.
By joining Transaid ride I will support what is one of the most important issues of our times and help to reduce the economic and social impacts of road crashes across Africa and the developing world. Transaid's work is supported by the UK and logistics industry and facilitates the sharing of transport skills and knowledge between Europe and Africa. Professional Driver Training Project in Zambia and Tanzania focuses on building the skills of Africa drivers to become safer and more efficient.
The ride is part of a nationwide effort of the Freight Transport Association, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Transport for London and Road Haulage Association to improve driving safety standards in sub-Saharan Africa where road crashes are the third-highest cause of premature death after HIV/AIDS and malaria.
There are many reasons why I'm doing the ride! All of them are also good reasons to sponsor me, so please dig deep and do for as much as you can. Every penny will go to a good, transport related, cause!
Regards, and thanks in advance
Peter Hendy CBE
Commissioner of Transport
