Story
As a proud supporter of our local community and charity in many forms, I will be undertaking an epic sponsored motorbike ride in support of Cancer Research . I'll be aiming to ride through 5 countries in 24 hours with his friend, Kev Leonard a qualified DSA motorbike instructor, and his daughter Zoe as a pillion. The trio will be using ferry crossings as necessary to cover Wales, both parts of Ireland, Scotland and then the UK taking in approximately 800 miles strictly against the clock. The longest leg will involve a 6 hour stretch on the bikes and sleep will be grabbed on the ferries where possible!
The ride will start at 9pm on the 30th September 2011 from my local pub, The Commercial in my home village of Slaithwaite in Huddersfield and finish there on Saturday at 9pm. Any one is welcome to sponsor the ride and join the guys for a post ride beer afterwards.
We'll be sporting Pink hi viz vests and pink helmets and not getting much sleep... that said, I can't think of a better way of raising much needed cash for this great charity and celebrating my close friend's relief that his wife has been free of cancer for 5 years since first being diagnosed. Cancer affects so many great people and perhaps this somewhat crazy ride will publisize and support a terrific charity which helps so many people in the face of a savage and destructive disease. Kev is a great mate and he's given me the ability to ride safely after years of dreaming about learning to ride ,so supporting a cause close to his heart is a very personal reason to do my bit for an increasingly valuable charity.
