We are the National Deaf Children’s Society, the leading charity for deaf children. We give expert support on childhood deafness, raise awareness and campaign for deaf children’s rights, so they have the same opportunities as everyone else.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you know my 22 month old daughter Emily is profoundly deaf. The National Deaf Childrens Society (NDCS) is a fantastic charity who supported me and my family when Emily was diagnosed as profoundly deaf at 4 weeks old. They invited us to a weekend for families with newly identified deaf children where we met with other families in a similar situation and we also met some amazing young people who where also deaf.  This gave us a better understanding of Emily's disability and what her future could hold.  They also arranged a family sign language course which really helped us to support Emily now and in the future. They are a charity that we will continue to turn to and I'm sure Emily will also turn to for support, so please help us support them and the work they do.

Emily is a wonderful little girl with plenty of character and personality and we are so proud of her.  She now has one cochlear implant which was switched on in January and this gives her the opportunity to hear sound which we are delighted with.  In the fullness of time she will develop speech and has already started to form her first words.

I wanted to do something to say thank you to the NDCS for all their help and support.   The Great North Run is a half marathon which is 13 miles or 20k.  I have been training since the start of June to get myself fit for mid September.  I want to make Emily as proud of me as we are of her.

Donating through JustGiving is totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity.

Thanking you in advance, any donations are extremely appreciated and will go to a fantastic cause.

Thanks Paul
