Story
A group of us are cycling the length, width and height of Wales in order to raise money for Myeloma UK Ride. We will be cycling about 230 miles from Chepstow on the South coast to Dogellau on the West coast before turning right across the Snowdonia National Park and on to Chester on the North coast(ish). The route runs through four mountain ranges with a total climb of 4,300 meters.
Why are we doing this?
To contribute to "Rod's Money for Myeloma" which is a charity set my good friend Rod Alexander to raise money for Myeloma UK.
This is Rod's story in his own words:
"In July 2013 my comfortable life was shattered when I was diagnosed with Myeloma, a rare, aggressive and incurable cancer of the bone marrow. In simple terms for me, that means eleven cracked vertebrae, damaged ribs and a compromised immune system. I had seven months of Chemotherapy with the Countess of Chester followed by a stem cell transplant at the Christie in Manchester. I am now six months post transplant and so far doing well although the disease always comes back."
With one study estimating that 97% of people have never heard of myeloma, Rod is keen to increase its profile and warn people about the importance of early diagnosis.
