UPDATE........I've arrived in Rome! I left London on the 9th May and arrived here on the 15th August! It's been an amazingly wonderful experience. Too much to tell here! If you would like to know more please contact me by email, address is either here or on my team page.
Update.....Tuesday 22nd July. I've now walked 57 days and having 3 'days off' in Lucca. Stevie Wonder was performing here on Sunday night and I managed to meet him after the show. I talked to him about the walk from London to Rome and collecting money for charities that are involved with Music and Health. I start walking again on the 24th and hope to reach Rome in the 2nd week of August.
Update - it's Sunday 8th June and I'm in Brienne le Chateau. I've been walking for 24 days with 5 'rest' days and have covered about 700 Kms. All going well.......
In 2012, I walked the 1008 kms/626 mile long Via de la Plata. It's one of the many Caminos de Santiago or pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. It starts in Seville in the south, through Merida, Caceres, Salamanca, Zamora, Ourense and finally to Santiago de Compostela in the north west corner of Spain. I started, as planned on the 10th September and arrived in Santiago on 22nd October. 37 walking days with 6 days spent visiting the towns along the way, and averaged just over 27kms/17 miles a day.
I would love to persuade people to give to the Alzheimers Society.
I'm involved with "Singing for the Brain" sessions in Truro, Cornwall and can see the wonderful effect that singing and music can have with anyone that has dementia. My Mother had Vascular Dementia and seemed to get so much enjoyment from listening to music and her own singing sessions.
I'm now going to attempt the Via Francigena, a 1,200 mile pilgrimage route from Canterbury to Rome, passing through France, Switzerland and Italy. I will try to update this page as I progress towards Rome.
