Story
On the Saturday the 15th June 2013 I will be participating in the 3rd Annual Khalsa Aid Mount Snowdon Hike.
I am hoping to raise money for the Leamington & Warwick Khalsa Aid Water4Africa appeal.
Water4Africa is a project Khalsa Aid are undertaking to setup water boreholes in high-risk drought affected areas in the horn of Africa.
As members of the Leamington and Warwick community we are aiming to raise £20,000 for an end to end project to provide and maintain a clean water supply through a borehole for a drought affected community in Kenya.
The population of Ilkisanjani, Oloitoktok, Kenya have to collect water from over 10 kilometres away and in droughts the distance they travel on foot can be alot further. There are over 9,500 people in this region of which 6,500 have NO ACCESS to clean water. The project is located in a semi-arid area, water access has been a major challenge.
The provision of clean water will:
* Prevent thirst for both humans and livestock
* Put an end to distance travelling in search of clean water
* Improve hygiene
* Reduce health risks
* Provide water for 650 households, 5 schools, the new FMG Rescue Centre as well as the existing Health Facility.
Last year Khalsa Aid delivered over 100 tons of aid to this drought affected region and decided to look at a more long term sustainable project.
This is a very costly project hence why many organisations do not get involved but with your help the people of this village will have guaranteed water for themselves and their livestock. This will ease many of the difficulties for the people who are in the high-risk drought zone. The total cost for this project is estimated to be around £15K to £17K however, the final total depends on the depth of the safe water.
Thank you for taking time to read my challenge and aim and please dig deep and donate now to help this excellent cause!
