The Challenge - achieved!
The 13 strong team (11 cyclists and 2 support members) headed to Whitehaven on 10th September to embark on a 150 mile, 3 day, cycle across the Lake District and Pennines to complete the Coast to Coast challenge.
Setting off all had completed extensive training but still underestimated the journey ahead and by mid-afternoon day one some were already feeling the effects of the incredibly steep hills.
Day two started with enthusiasm but was to see their biggest challenge yet, with the Hartside Summit; the tallest peak of the ride, its altitude a mere 1903 feet, hills as far as the eye could see and took over an hour to conquer. This day did not defeat them and they all pulled together as a team to overcome the endless hills and get to their stopping point Allenheads.
Day three saw more hills but a slow decent down to South Shields and the finish line. Passing over the millennium bridge they finally dipped the front wheel of their bikes into the sea on the east coast. The team were elated and full of a huge sense of achievement, but they still had no idea just how much had been raised.
