Story
A huge thank you to all of you lovely people for supporting me so far, I've upped my training to 5 times per week and all set for organ awareness event/sponsored cycle at the college I teach at on world kidney day 14th March. Thanks once again! You guys are all stars!! :-) xxx
Hey guys thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page : )
I am raising money for Transplant Sport UK (TSUK) a great organisation that help raise the profile of organ transplantation and organ donors.
I have been selected to represent Team GB's Transplant cycling team again at this year's World Transplant Games, which will be held in Durban, South Africa (28th July - 4th August 2013).
As most of you know (I know I talk alot and if you listen you may know about this BUT if not avoid topics on kidneys, transplants, meds etc) I had a life saving kidney transplant from my awesome Mum (Lesley Ranson) back in August 2007. Since then I have started cycling (after having to give up playing football), I have competed for my hospital team; Addenbrookes on 3 occassions in Bath, Belfast and Medway at The annual British Transplant games. I have also had the great honour of representing Great Britain and NI's transplant team in Sweden at the World Transplant Games in 2010 and in Croatia at the European Transplant Games in 2012.
I'm hoping to kick butt again this year and show how by having my life saving stupendously bionic kidney 'Poppet' I can continue to be me, be healthy and active and lead a near normal (well lets face it there's nothing normal about me!) lifestyle...I hear cycling is a lifestyle - quote CC Luton ;-)
If you guys could spare a few quid to help me on my quest that would be amazing, I promise to try my hardest in training and make you all proud when competing (South Africa has a lovely array of cakes don't they?)
My class (at Barnfield College) and I are also doing a fund raising event in March to raise the profile of what it means to be an organ donor, to try to educate the students (and passers by!) by doing a cyclothon for 5 hours on my turbo (1 hour for every year I have been post transplant- yep gonna need quite a bit of cake!), I'll keep you all posted with how that goes.
I really hope you can help!
Many many thanks
Ottilie : ) xxx
