Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Bristol Half Marathon in order to raise funds for the Heart of the Community project.
I am one of 15 runners in the HOTC Running team. We are a group of people who have met through our local church and are running to help raise funds for "The Heart of the Community project". A project about everyday people living to make a difference. With that in mind, we are raising £5.5m to invest in four key areas of community and church life. The buildings and facilities aren't the main focus of the project, they are simply tools for the task of living to make a difference.
The church building refurbished
Refurbishment of our historic church building will protect and improve it for increased use in the years ahead. Better heating, new toilets, redecoration and waterproofing are all included in the plans.
The Old School Rooms upgraded
Upgrading of facilities, especially sound-proofing and air-conditioning, will make the Old School Rooms even better equipped to serve the whole community and to be considerate to our neighbours.
A large new church and community centre
We're building a complex of meeting rooms and a community auditorium seating up to 600 people on the old barns site next door to the Old School Rooms. It's designed to enable St Michael’s to grow and to serve the community in many new ways.
Outreach and fighting poverty
The project aims to make a difference well beyond our parish boundaries, by sharing with other churches, and by supporting work to combat poverty and spread the good news of Jesus in collaboration with charities elsewhere in the UK and around the world. Charities already supported include the Chilli Children's Trust - helping disabled children in Uganda find a livelihood - and building projects in Moldova.
