Story
A few months ago, (after a few glasses of wine) I signed myself up for the epic challenge to conquer 'The Three Peaks' - the tallest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales: Ben Nevis - pictured above (1345m), Scafell Pike (976m) and Snowdon (1085m). The challenge is to walk all three consecutively, in a 24 hour period.
3 months on with D-day looming, I can think of 3 huge reasons why this is a bad idea! :)
On a serious note, my reason for joining a team of people from my company (GoCardless) is to raise money for a great charity called DKMS which has built the largest database of bone marrow donors in the World (8 million people, leading to 75,000 donor bone marrow transplants), which are needed to help save the lives of many people with a blood cancer or blood disorder.’
The charity was chosen by our Chief Revenue Officer and GC team-player: AG. Unfortunately AG has experienced first hand the importance of a charity like DKMS - just over 5 years ago AG was diagnosed with Cancer. He had at most three weeks to live with advanced cancer and many tumours throughout his chest, abdomen, liver, spleen, shoulders and bone marrow. The diagnosis showed a rare and aggressive form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (‘Double-Hit’) which carries the grim prognosis of a 20 % chance of survival. Thankfully AG did overcome the cancer, with amongst other things, the help of a bone marrow transplant, and has since gone on to battle cancer for a second time this year. The insurmountable AG is now back at work again and soon setting off on a new adventure overseas to help GoCardless take over the world! You can read more about AG’s story on his blog - https://andrewgilboy.com/
It's only a few weeks until we take on this challenge so any donations would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you,
Nina
