There are over 4,000 children living in institutional homes across the Bulgaria. More than 90% of those children are not orphans; they have been driven into care homes because they are poor, disabled or from an ethnic minority. Many children are institutionalised because local schools are not adapted to teach children with physical or learning disabilities and local health services cannot provide specialised care. Social services are insufficient to meet the needs of poor families or protect children from abuse. Kids Care is committed to finding safe home environment for these children.
