Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving / donation page.
I am doing this in memory of a doctor who lived in our village, Richard Percival (‘Percy’), who sadly died of a stroke last year, aged only 47, brought on from a head injury during skiing. He was intending to cycle LEJOG (Lands End – John O’Groats) in July this year but didn't get the chance, so a group of us are doing it for him and raising some funds along the way.
Our first target is to raise money - lots of it - £250,000 to be precise, for a portable CT scanner for the Neurological Unit in Southampton General Hospital. The scanner will improve the quality of care that the amazing staff, who look after patients like Richard, will be able to provide. You would be directly contributing towards potentially life saving equipment that will transform how medical services are delivered at this unit. A portable brain scanner will slash the time taken to diagnose an illness and greatly improve the chances of a quicker and more successful recovery. The Neuro unit specialises in treating victims of stroke and brain injury from all over the south of England. Anyone suffering brain injury or stroke in the south of England is very likely to be treated there.
Please take a few moments to watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZQlEw7woOY and see how this scanner will make a significant difference.
So along with a large group of ‘Percy's pals’, I am planning to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats in June - one of those bucket-list items still on my list - a distance not far short of 1,000 miles and a journey that will take 12 days - passing through some of the most stunning and remote countryside in England, Wales and Scotland. It's a tough challenge for sure and plenty of training is required, but one we are committed to do and that's where you can help …
I will hugely appreciate any financial support - however big or small - what ever you can afford. Your money will go straight to our appeal and ensure that we can buy this head scanner as soon as possible for Southampton Hospital.
If you do not know Percy’s story please take a minute to visit http://percyspals.com/?page_id=31
The cycle will take place from June 17 to 29. Between now and then, I’ll be providing updates via this web page.
Many thanks indeed.
