Fundraising for Development Direct
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am trying to fundraise enough money to build a nursery for the children living in Lebentera, a Maasai village on the edge of the Siana Plains, in Kenya.
Myself and my mum visted this village at the end of February 2011 and we immediately noticed the need for a nursery after discussing the problems with Moses, one of the people living in the village. The nearest school is in Ngoswani, and having personally walked there it took us well over an hour in the baking hot sun. We could only imagine how difficult this must be for young children to have to walk there twice a day completely alone.
There are people in the village who have completed high school and therefore will be able to teach the younger children, but they have no room to do this in. We are planning to build a nursery, with a solid floor and walls for hygiene reasons, as well as paying for the chairs, tables, toys, pens, paper and everything else that you would expect to see in a nursery and the items you'd want your children to grow up with.
The estimated cost for the project is between £4,000-£4,500 but when we raise the first £1,000 the construction can begin, so the sooner we do this the sooner the village will get their much needed nursery.
Normally when giving to charity you don't know where the money goes or what it is used for, but 100% of the money raised will be going direct to the village so that the nursery can be built, which is a change that will benefit the whole community.
In addition to this Development Direct is also fundraising to build a borehole in the village to enable easy access to clean water. This means the women and girls will no longer need to several miles to collect the water for the villagers and instead will have a chance of an equal education. As you can imagine, any donation would be greatly appreciated by all.
Thank you for reading this, and every penny will help.
