Nicky's Channel Swim

English Chanel Relay Swim · 9 July 2015
Thanks for stopping by to see what all the fuss is about.
WE DID IT ! On 18th July we set off from Dover onboard Anastasia, and we landed in France a whopping 19hours and 35 minutes later, exhausted, achey but exhilarated. Our track was rather long to account for our swim speeds and the strong tides (it was a spring tide) so we ended up swimming 77km in total.
I'm raising funds to help a Masai village in Tanzania where the villagers have to trek 12km to a safe water source for drinking, cooking and washing. They wash, fill jerry cans and trek 12km back to their homes. Their need is so great that many of the children can't attend school as they are helping with water collection. Heavy rains damaged the water pipe that previously connected this village to the nearest water source, and it now needs replacing. Local labourers will be employed to undertake the work.
I wanted to raise money for a tangible project that could make a real difference on the ground, something that I could track and actually see the benefits of. This projeect immediately resonated with me, and I knew I wanted to support it having visited Tanzania. By raising the funds for this project through ERM's own charity - The ERM Foundation - I will be applying for fund matching, whereby ERM will top up the amount donate by matching 75% of the money I raise. The project needs about 17million Tanzanian Shilling ... about £5400. So if i can raise £3085 with your help, the ERM Foundation will top it up to the full value that's needed to make this project a reality.
