Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My dear friend's daughter Ella lost her fight to Osteo-Sarcoma (bone cancer) in November 2012. She was just 20, beautiful, brave and uncomplaining. Tall, gracious, brown-eyed and funny we used to chat about the deep things in life, like "Made in Chelsea" and the "X Factor" to while away the hours spent in a beige hospital room whilst undergoing chemo and recovering from drastic surgery.
Ella's legacy is the Teenage Cancer Trust's 'Area 61' in the Bristol Oncology Hospital. She kick-started fund-raising for this unit whilst in brief remission, so other teenagers and young adults wouldn't have to endure hours spent in hospital wards meant for the over 50's. There is now a vibrant colourful space where young adults can spend time just doing the normal stuff - watching films, 'chatting' to friends, reading emails or simply surfing the web. When she passed away her friends and family were determined to carry on with her vision. Having raised over £110,000 the money needs to keep on coming to pay for its staffing and upkeep - this is why I'm taking part in an activity my body fights to avoid! I may end up just walking the 10km, but without a doubt whatever discomfort it causes me it will be a shadow of the agony Ella had to endure.
I am proud to have known such an inspirational beauty and miss you lots Ella. xx
