I'm running the Bristol Half Marathon as part of a team of 14 runners to raise funds to support the building of a church and community centre in the village of Stoke Gifford near Bristol.

I've not taken on a physical challenge like this before, so it's got to be worth sponsoring me either for my efforts or simply the pleasure it will give you to know how much I have suffered over 13 gruelling miles! I've even had to cut down on pies.

Below is a brief explanation of what the project is all about.

The people of St Michael's Church have served the growing community of Stoke Gifford, on the edge of Bristol, for centuries. The Heart of the Community project is an audacious plan to take that vision of making a difference to a whole new level.  Our vision is to help restore relationships, re-build community and enable more people to come together and discover the difference our lives can make.

This project is hoping to:

 make greater provision for Youth work, make provision for the elderly, provide support for the disadvantaged, provide greater capacity for community activites, provide wider welcome and support for university students, provide space to extend collaboration with schools, community groups and other churches, protect the historic church building, create resources to share with charities and wider regional organisations, develop stronger partnerships and support for aid and outreach charities in the UK and overseas
