This one's for Paul. He was my best mate. We first met at Oxclose school in Washington, aged 11 and were best friends from there. After school we lost touch for a while but met up again in our late 20's. Paul worked at Nissan and worked damn hard, never having time off and doing all the overtime he could to support his family and help them all have a better life. Things took a massive turn, last year in the June, when Paul had a fit at work. From there, Paul had a Brain scan, operation, biopsy, which showed a grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumour, which is a nasty one and very hard to treat but Paul was a fighter and stuck with all the prescribed treatment. He tried to keep busy and try and stay positive throughout. I will always remember New Years day, this year, when Paul and a lot of his Family and Friends were out, hoping to celebrate a better Year, than the last one. Things were short lived, as Paul was suffering from a lot of pain in his head. A further brain scan showed that the tumour had spead. Paul went to stay at St Benedict's Hospice, where he had the most amazing care and support, he was there, for nearly 3 weeks. Paul died there on the 17th March this year.

Even now it is so hard to believe that Paul is not with us any longer, it is so hard to take in for everyone who was close to him. Paul was truly a special person, one of the best. Honest, Trustworthy, Caring, Hard Working, Funny, passionate, witty, loving and most of all a true family man. I was privileged to ever have a friend like him. You've heard the saying " Only the Good die Young " well Paul, was definitely in this category !!

All the money that I do raise will go to The Brain Tumour Charity, who have to rely a lot on donations from the public. They are at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain tumours, which will make a difference every day to the lives of people with brain tumours and their families.

This year will ironically be my 30th ever Great North Run. It could be my last one, due to the demands of the course and my knees. I know for a fact that this one will be probably the most emotional one of them all, from getting up in the morning to the start line and running down to the sea front and finishing. On the other hand I am so proud, to be doing this for my best Mate Paul and it will be an honour for me.
