Story
Four years of watching loved ones battle and lose their fight against cancer has given me the motivation to fundraise for as many cancer charities as I can. With the University's cancer research unit on our door step, I'm taking on my next challenge to fundraise for the cancer research unit here at Warwick where I work. On 14th June 2015, I am running with a team of 120 other runners to raise funds and awareness of vital cancer research taking place at the University of Warwick.Ongoing cancer research is vital to improve detection of all cancers, improve treatment and improve patient care.
Sadly 1 in 3 of us will develop cancer during our lifetime. Research at Warwick focuses on:
- Improving detection - high quality screenings and less invasive tests
- Treatment - the development of new drugs to help the body attack and shut down cancerous cells
- Patient care - helping with issues like tiredness, sickness, weight and hair loss
As a team we are aiming to raise £10,000 this year, so anything you can give towards this target will help.
100% of your donation & gift aid will go to cancer research as the University cover all admin costs. £10,000 will pay for:
- 100 tests on samples
- 50 racks for gel electrophoresis, which helps measure DNA in cancer cells
- 12 simple chemotherapy pumps, to enable patients to receive their treatment at home
- 5 days of translational research
- 5 days of testing new medicines in clinical trials
