On May 16th I will embark on a little bike ride from our offices in Leatherhead to Oxford and then the next day on to Wales...
So why am I doing this...
Our ride is in memory of Mel Jaggard, a Unilever colleague and friend, who sadly passed away last year following a long battle with cancer. As a team of about 50 we aim to raise £50k for the Get A Head charitable trust to help fund research into Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) an incredibly rare and (currently) incurable form of cancer which took Mel from us.
Mel was a true inspiration, not allowing her illness to hold her back in life. I will fondly remember the 'MSW' days back in Crawley....our trip to Berlin, Katie Pink's leaving party, Mel winning the ladies title at Queens Club at the annual Royal Warrant Holders event (I was not jealous at all!!!!!); there were so many amazing memories...
I am so excited (if a little bit nervous) to be cycling to Mel's home town with a bunch of other mad Unilever cyclists...but I reckon if I can manage 3 days cycling in torrential rain to Paris this will be a breeze!
