Naomi's Wobbleberry Challenge - Going Eventing after 25 year gap! Eeeek!

Wobbleberry Challenge · 14 November 2016
Hannah Francis was a young, talented Event rider who was unbelievably brave in her fight with bone cancer. She was inspirational & determined to make a difference and set up her charity – Willberry Wonder Pony to raise funds for bone cancer research. Her story is very well known amongst horsey people (please search her story if you are not familiar.)
I am one of a bunch of crazy people from all over the country who do not usually take part in Eventing to be putting ourselves out of our comfort zones and joining the Wobbleberry Challenge. The Wobbleberry Challenge is to compete in a British Eventing (BE-80) competition in 2017; this involves three phases; dressage, show jumping and cross country. My partner in crime will be Dougie, this is the horse I fell from while jumping three years ago resulting in me breaking my hip. After 2 years of surgery, I’m now back riding and up for the challenge of regaining my fitness and nerve for a very good cause. However, Dougie has the greater challenge as he is used to carrying my very much more athletic, fit and brave daughter. He is a dude but he will need to put up with my wobbly broken body that has not attempted Eventing for 25 years, horrendous memory and resulting navigation issues and my failing nervous system. He will need to dance elegantly through his dressage then lug my sorry ass over 80cm high fences. Time to get fit and put on my ‘brave pants’!
