Story
24th April 2014
Following our successful screenings at the Regents College and the Rich Mix cinema we are doing another event on the anniversary of the Rana building collapse (24/04/2014). The team at www.raisingforrana.com are managing this event.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are raising money for the families of the garment workers who lost their lives in the Rana Factory collapse, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
To do this, we are partnering with War On Want (UK based charity with whom we have colloborated for many years) and the National Garment Workers Fedaration (garments worker's union based in Bangladesh). Currently 42 NGWF members passed away in the building collapse and over 100 of its members are in critical care in hospital. Through War on Want the money will reach their partners on the ground, the National Garment Workers Federation, who are supporting the victims’ families and those affected by the disaster
We hope to provide at least 1 month's salary to each of these familes, many of whom will have lost their only earner in the disaster.
At various events across the world, we are screening our documentary 'The Machinists' which follows the lives of ordinary garment workers in Dhaka, as a campaign tool to raise awareness on the lives of garment workers as well as to raise funds.
