Story

Hello! My name is Alex MacGregor, and I am the founder and editor of 'Olly Murs Daily', the biggest fansite on Tumblr on Essex's most successful pop export, Olly Murs.

It's been an idea of ours for about two years to do something for Brainwave Centre through running the site. But there's never seemed to be a right time to do it, or the right opportunity, until now, as Olly celebrates his 30th birthday in May. Which leads us to the end of last year, when myself, and two other fans who are also good friends of mine, Lyndsey Birchall and Nicole Heathcote, decided to do something special to mark the occasion.

Olly's fans (or #MursArmy, as we're affectionately known) are one of  the most loyal and supportive fanbases of any major pop artist there currently is in this country, and our support and loyalty is what has powered him to go on and realise his dreams, and be as successful as he has been and continues to be.

Now is the chance for us all to really make a difference, to use that same support and loyalty we've shown to him as a positive force - to give something back that will now change lives, and enable Brainwave Centre to continue the amazing work that they do for children with disabilities and their families every year. When we got in touch with Olly's manager, Sarah Thomas, and Gerry Gould at Brainwave in January, they were such a great support to this idea from the beginning, and without them it wouldn't have been possible.

"Brainwave would like to thank Alex and everyone who assists at the ‘Olly Murs Daily' website for organising this online fundraising.  Brainwave is a Children’s Charity that helps children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence.  We aim to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physical therapies." - Gerry Gould, South East Community Manager at Brainwave Centre

And so to now, as we launch #MursArmyGivesBack, our birthday guestbook for Olly's 30th birthday - and we want you to be a part of it. We've set up the guestbook right here on JustGiving for fans to leave their 30th birthday messages for Olly, and a donation. We are looking to raise at least £250, but please give whatever you can. You can leave your birthday message for Olly and donate here right now, or if you want to send your message and donate just £2 by text, just send our special fundraising code MURS84 £2 to 70070. Thank you for taking the time to visit us and thank you once again for your support!
