Story
Back in June it was decided that one member of each house in the school would run a half marathon in October. With a minimum age restriction of 16 in place even the keenest Lower School student was unable to volunteer and so I decided it would be a good idea for me, a tutor in the Lower School, to run.
The fact I was unable to run due to injury at that time didn't seem to be much of an issue, October was a long way away. I've done my best to keep in shape on the bike and in the pool and I can even start jogging on grass a whole two weeks before the race... easy!
Despite having run several half marathons in the past, the injury is offering a unique challenge, I have come to terms with the fact I won’t be running particularly fast. What I will do is finish.
The Haileybury Youth Trust (HYT) supports sustainable development in Uganda by using environmentally friendly technologies. British volunteers& Ugandans work together improving lives, providing employment opportunity by constructing water tanks & low cost buildings & training young Ugandans in useful, practical skills. We provide a hand-up. In partnership with each ‘One Village’ community, and working with our trainee builders and our senior trainers, we undertake an environmentally-friendly programme of building and refurbishment of schools and other buildings that enhances health, sanitation and educational provision, providing opportunity.
