On June 21st you will see a strange sight on the roads in Belfast. I will be driving my wheelchair for all 26.2 miles of a marathon, finishing at Stormont after an 8 hour extravaganza.
I live with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a condition which makes me run a metaphorical marathon every single day. But I don't run it alone. This marathon affects 2,000 people in Northern Ireland - there are babies, teens, adults and our wise elders all running the race I do. They don't all have SMA, but we all live together with a neuromuscular condition that challenges us every single day.
I have always dreamed of completing a marathon. This is for YOU - all of you, all around the world who are on the same road I am. With many thanks to my family, Muscular Dystrophy UK, and the PSNI, I finally get to fulfil this dream.
I need you. I need people to come out with me - you can come along for a mile, or you can come and do the whole thing! I can't do this marathon without the support of the people - so please drop me a line if you want to come with me on a mile, the more the merrier!
Muscular Dystrophy UK have been there at every stage for my family. From diagnosis, to the death of my sister and now with me as an adult and navigating new technology and a rapidly evolving medical system, they are always at the other end of the phone. All money raised will go to them to ensure that we continue this fight against muscle-wasting conditions. Please donate whatever you can - whether that is money, or just an hour of your time on race day. Together, our muscles are strong. Together, we win.
