Story
The event is sponsored by Sigma-Aldrich, and without them the synthesis would not be possible, so huge thank you!!!
As a post-graduate cancer research group at the University of Nottingham, raising money for a cancer charity is obviously something we would all be interested in, and with Dr John Moses being Welsh, going to Wales and climbing mount Snowdon seemed like the appropriate thing to do!
The idea is to stay over night in Snowdonia and walk/climb to the top of Snowdon the following day on one of the more troublesome paths... It will be a difficult walk, but hopefully a lot of fun! The whole point of the event is to get as many people as possible to sponser us so we can raise money for a very worthwhile research charity - The Association for International Cancer Research (AICR).
To raise as much awareness as possible about the event, we have come up with something a little quirky to do, and are planning a synthesis of one of the world's oldest and most successful anti-cancer drugs at the top of the mountain! This is now confirmed after receiving permission from the Snowdonia National Park Authority. If everything goes to plan we aim to show the UK that chemistry is not something that has to be confined to a lab with a bunch a geeky scientists, but something that is accessible to everyone and can certainly be a lot of fun!!!
On a more serious note, this is particularly important to us because most of the group have had people close to them that have been affected by cancer. We are all already putting our time and hard-work into tackling this world-wide problem, however research can only continue with funding which either comes from the government or from charities which rely completely on donations from you lovely people!
If you feel this is something you would like to support and help us to fight this battle then please donate as much or as little as you can afford! Every penny will be appreciated and will hopefully help us to reach our target.
