Story
Hello everyone. As many of you will know by now we did not quite make the top due to illness that saw first myself and then Morgan hit by a stomach bug that sapped some of my enerygy the day before summit day and most of Morgans on summit day.
We did however get well over 4000m 4260m to be precise and managed a terrific ski down the North face of the mountain where Morgan made a speedy recovery. This ammounted to around 90% of the overall height of the mountain.
We set off at 02:00hrs under torchlight and climbed the North East ridge of the Dome du Gouter, the first to take this route this year we beleive. We encountered hard Glacier ice on this route and were glad we had taken our steel crampons rather than the light weight Aluminium ones.
As the sun came up around 04:40am we were treated to a sight not many have seen as the alps unfolded below us with only the three peaks of Mont Blanc anywhere near the same height as us.
Thank you all for your support and as the money is still coming in we may still make the £5000 target over the next few weeks even before my companies match giving scheme doubles the first £3500.
Thanks Regards John Scott and Morgan Sinclair.

Well folks, Morgan and I are out here in France doing it now. We have spent a grueling three days with the guide going through crevace rescue, glacier travel etc and have skied some great steep and incredible glaciated terrain.
The weather was a bit rubbish the first few days when Shona and I arrived here but has since turned for the better.
We skied into Italy today and had a great run back into France through amazing scenery.
We have reached the £3500 mark thanks to all you folks and look like we may even reach the £5000 target by the time everything is totalled up. (bp will also double the first £3500)
Check out my facebook page for pics etc. (search for skijohn1972)

Many of you reading this will know me already, some may be family, others friends or work colleagues.
My name is John Scott and I have worked for BP for twenty years now. I have been skiing for 27 years and in that time have skied some pretty hairy stuff. Tower Gully on Ben Nevis (Britains highest mountain) comes to mind.
About 10 years ago I met a guy called Morgan Sinclair on Forties Bravo in the North sea. At the time he was just one of many 'Well Service' guys asking for relief (safety) valves to be set up by me when I was an Instrument technician.
That all changed one day a few years back when we bumped into one another on Cairngorm Mountain and realised that we both skied at the same level and that as a safety precaution it would be ideal if we could stick together and look out for one another when going off the beaten track a bit.
Our friendship has grown from there and it soon became clear that we also had something else in common.
A desire to climb and ski Mont Blanc, Western Europes highest mountain (4810m)
After many years (and beers) talking about it, we have finally decided to make an attempt in May next year. We have booked the services of a locally based guide from May 15th to 25th and weather permitting we should succeed.
As you can imagine, doing something like this and not raising some cash for a worthy cause would be a bit daft, so after a bit of thinking we decided to ask for donations for the Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that has helped people that we both know well.
We are hoping to ski the West Face down in to Italy, but as you can imagine it will be up to Mother Nature to decide if that is possible. If conditions are not ideal then we will ski the easier North Face back into France or as much of it as we can manage with the conditions.
Morgan is spending the winter out there in Chamonix in between working in Kazakstan as a Coiled tubing supervisor and I will be doing all my training on the Harding platform and the Scottish mountains.
Any donations made through this web site will still be eligible for bp's match giving scheme, which should double anything we raise.
If you or anyone you know has been effected by cancer then please donate anything you can by following the instructions on my page here.
If you would rather give a donation to me in person, then that is also fine as I will be collecting both offshore and at home. I may also pop into the office on the scrounge once my T-shirt arrives so you will recognise me.
Thanks in advance for anything you can give and please wish us both good luck with the weather next May.
Regards John Scott
