Story
Over the next three days, I will join a group of my fellow members of the Lea Rowing Club in sculling more than 100km from the club’s home in East London, through Central London, and up the Thames to the historic rowing town of Henley.
We aim to raise vital funds to ensure the survival of a long and proud tradition of rowing in Hackney and the important role the club plays in making rowing accessible to everyone.
The survival of Lea Rowing Club is in jeopardy unless we can raise the £1 million needed to fund a renovation project at the centre of Hackney Council's decision whether to grant the club a new 99 year lease. It is vital we succeed, or the club could be left homeless, ending this 100-year tradition.
