Ronald McDonald McDonald House in Manchester provides free accommodation for families whose children are undergoing treatment at the adjacent Children's hospital so they can stay close together as a family unit. The 60 bedroom House provides a free, welcoming place to stay and means the families can concentrate on their child without worrying where to stay for what could be weeks or even months at a time.
Adams dad Steve Burne was diagnosed with cancer in May 2017 which has since spread and become terminal. Time is precious.
For over 15 years, Steve has been involved with the Ronald McDonald House Charities, for the past six years as Chair of the Manchester House Board of Governors. Steve has a passion for keeping families together, close to their children in hospital.
In Steve's words... 'Although devastated by the cancer prognosis, I am lucky to be here having survived several cardiac arrests in October and setbacks meaning my time is now limited. I want to work hard to leave a lasting legacy, something that will have an impact for many years to come. So along with friends and family we set out to raise sufficient funds to convert some existing spaces into three new rooms. Having smashed the original target of £250,000, Steve raised the goal so that a further two rooms can be converted into bedrooms, taking the total in the House to 65 rooms, with an additional area of reflection outside for his own family as well as other who have lost loved ones. So far we can help keep families together, close to their children in hospital.
To support Steve, on 14th October 2018, I will be running the Manchester Half Marathon to help raise money for The Steve Burne Rooms.
