Help to beat breast cancer!
THANK YOU for kindly visiting my JustGiving page. This September (27th), I’m raising money at "Shine Night Walk" to help Cancer Research UK beat breast cancer sooner.
The Cause: A good friend was diagnosed with breast cancer early July 2014, there were options to either cry with her or do something to support her fight with cancer mentally as well as physically, and I chose to fight together with her. I always thought that cancer is more likely when you are older, but she is still young...not yet married, not yet a mum, still waiting for her prince charming and wants to travel the world. She is an optimist who loves food but eats healthy, loves walking and is always thoughtful enough to do little things for others to show that she cares. Cancer does not run in her family, she doesn't smoke and hardly ever drinks alcohol. How could it have happened? Baffled...but we need to continue laughing together as we used to and believe there will be a better tomorrow, because there will be. It is an ongoing fight that we need to fight together....this is for you WN; know that you are not alone and we are walking with you every step of the way!
My Journey: She inspired my fundraising challenge....which began as a first step with a 3 day style challenge from 23rd to 25th July, as part of Macmillan Cancer Support's "Shave or Style" campaign. (Link: https://www.justgiving.com/Walking-in-May) Thankfully I reached my fundraising target by pledging to; wear the Cheongsam (Qipao) dress on all 3 days of the style challenge, to make my very first VIDEO Tutorial on a vintage hairstyle, and finally doing the Night half marathon "Shine Walk" in September 2014 wearing a Cheongsam (Qipao) dress and vintage hairstyle! All I pledged will be done, and this time....
- Distance: Half marathon (13.1 miles or 21 km)
- Start time: 7.30 PM in the evening to...probably over 6hours later?
- Wearing: Cheongsam (Qipao) dress and vintage hairstyle
Why this charity? On a personal front, it is my way of fighting breast cancer together with WN....but with millions affected by cancer every year, no one is truly safe and we are a society living with cancer. With nearly 140 women diagnosed every day, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. Men also get breast cancer – around 350 men every year are diagnosed. Cancer Research UK's work has helped ensure that more than eight out of 10 women now survive their disease beyond five years. But around 11,700 women and 80 men still die from the disease each year in the UK. My fundraising target of £208 will help....cover the cost for at least 2 women to take part in a clinical trial, aiming to improve survival for early-stage breast cancer.
Fundraising Target-Posts:
- For Cheongsam or Qipao Shops: I will be wearing ONE single Cheongsam (Qipao) during the whole 21km 'SHINE Walk' from the highest bidding donation. (Bid on this Just Giving page by leaving a donation and the name of your shop....by 8th September 2014)
- Have a message to give a loved one fighting cancer? Make a donation of £20 and leave the message together with your chosen landmark (see SHINE Walk Map in 'photos' for Half-Marathon) and your name. During the SHINE walk in September, I will stop at your chosen landmark to read out the message and record it as a video that will be put on YouTube for your loved one to watch.
- Reaching my fundraising target of £208 = I will be creating a video on 'How-To' choose a Cheongsam or Qipao!
