Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This September, I shall be heading up the country, joining 56,999 other runners to take part in the 2016 Great North Run to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. But Matt, this will be your 3rd half marathon and you run for fun! Why should I donate? Good question, and one I shall try to answer in the following, slightly arduous, paragraphs.
From my testicular cancer diagnosis in March 2014, through my two operations, three rounds of chemotherapy, and up until I entered remission in 2015, my Macmillan Nurse provided me with invaluable help and guidance. She sat in on my appointments, was a friendly face on the chemotherapy wards and took care of things when they were a little bit shit. So I'd like to help Macmillan continue their excellent work by giving back to them.
The Great North Run will also be different to any run I've ever taken part in. It is one of the biggest half marathons in the world with 57000 runners last year. What a perfect setting to smash my post cancer personal best of 1h 45m and to attempt to beat my all time best of 1h 27m.
If you're on Instagram and fancy being bored to tears by incessant run chat, then you can follow my training on there at @matt.runs. Also, if, for some reason, I'm yet to force my blog upon you, you can take a read of my cancer journey blog here : http://ohbollocksitscancer.blogspot.co.uk
Please give only what you can afford, even if it's a pound, it all goes towards making the lives of those living with cancer slightly easier.
Matt :)
