Story

Jailed & Bailed

I have agreed to take part in the British Red Cross annual Jailed & Bailed event to be hosted by the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Alderman and Mrs Nick Anstee, on Friday 21 May.

I will be 'arrested' at Mansion House, on charges yet to be confirmed, and then be transported by the City of to the where I will be incarcerated pending 'bail'. On the condition that I raise £1,000 in bail in support of the British Red Cross by 2pm that day, I will be a free woman again…but if not, I will be left to sample Her Majesty’s hospitality indefinitely. While I have been assured that I will be made ‘as comfortable as possible’ at the Tower if all else fails, I implore you to help me by contributing towards my bail now!

All bail is raised in aid of the British Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org.uk/) and I would be very grateful if you would give generously to this wonderful cause. I am sure many of you will have donated in the past for special appeals, such as for Haiti. Donating now enables the Red Cross to be ready to react in an instant to the next disaster, without having to wait for the money to come in.

However well we prepare for life, a single event can change everything. A house fire can leave a family homeless and with nothing. An earthquake can bring a whole country to its knees. The Red Cross believes in respect for other human beings and in meeting suffering with care, understanding and without discrimination. They care for people in their own homes and in local communities, at home and abroad, in peace and in war.

In crisis situations, people need the Red Cross to be there when there is no one else to turn to. This year, millions of people will depend on them and helping me raise bail for this event means that they can be there when it counts.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me – the British Red Cross will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 25% in tax will be added to your donation through the gift aid system at no cost to you.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. (If you really don't feel comfortable donating on-line, you can always send me a cheque payable to 'British Red Cross'.)

Thank you very much for taking the time to read about my 'plight' and please help me to raise money for an organisation that brings relief to so many people and countries throughout the world.
