Story
All - I reached Reeth on Day 7 (107 miles) and decided to do the walk in 2 parts. The forecast for the North York Moors Section was looking really bad and I needed to get back to see Karen. I hope to return this summer to finish it off. I'm incredibly grateful for all your support - any more donations would of course be welcome. Regards - Martin

Dear All I've now reached Kirby Stephen on day 5 - tomorrow I set off for Keld the half way point. I hope to get as far as I can but the weather is beating me! I've been waist deep in a peat bog, blown over by Glaisdale tarn and wading down flooded roads! Don't believe what they tell you about Gortex socks! I've just seen the latest total and have been bowled over by your support - THANKS !!!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
2011 has not been a great year for the Scales family. Whilst family and friends were worried about my adventures in Helmand problems started nearer home. First my dear Mum passed away unexpectedly in June following a battle against breast cancer. A few months later Karen was diagnosed with it too! I'm pleased to say it was caught early, she is doing incredibly well and staying positive. She starts her chemo next week.
Since this all happened we have both been struck by how many of our family and friends lives have been effected by breast cancer. We've also been impressed at the level of care provided by both the NHS and by charities. I hope to help by trying to raise some money for the Breast Cancer Care charity by attempting the 190 mile Wainwright "Coast to Coast" walk. Breast Cancer Care offer much needed support to sufferers, to find out more about them click on the link from this page.
The Coast to Coast walk is a real challenge, crossing the Lakes, Dales and North Yorkshire Moors and goes from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in Yorkshire. I start on 26 November and will be doing it the hard way, spending most nights in a one man tent! Please sponsor me, all donations large or small will be most appreciated.
