Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This fund raiser is to raise money to buy home dialysis machines for Raigmore Hospital Renal Unit, for use within the vast Highland region.

I am a haemodialysis patient, which means I attend hospital three times a week for four hour sessions on a kidney machine, which keeps me alive. An alternate method for people to Dialyse is six days a week from home, for shorter periods which is much more natural. The means for many people to dialyse from home is available but is only possible for people who have a large enough house to accommodate the kidney machine, filtration systems and reverse osmosis equipment for water purification. At present, it is only available to patients who own their own property as there can be significant changes to install the equipment. The purpose of this fund raiser is to make people aware of kidney disease and dialysis, and to raise funds to purchase a new portable kidney dialysis machine that would allow people in rented accommodation to dialyse from home. This will dramatically improve their quality of life, and allow them to live a more normal life, giving them a freedom they can only dream of.

There will be four canoes which will travel from Fort William on the west coast of Scotland (30th August) to Inverness on the east coast (4th September), by way of the Great Glen. We will take six days to complete, as I will need to stop and while others are setting up camp, I will be needled and connected to a portable kidney dialysis machine which will be fed by a portable generator. I will in this way dialyse for three hours every day, sitting very still because of the needles in my arm which will add to the challenge because of the infamous Scottish Midges!

So wish me luck
