Story
Earlier this year I was very moved by a documentary 'The end of the line', If nothing else I would urge you to watch it. I am doing this ride to both raise awareness of the issues and to help provide a solution with the Blue Marine Foundation (Blue)
We are departing as a group from London on this Sunday morning, I am doing the first leg down to Folkestone, whilst the finer and fitter athletes will carry on down to arrive at the Prince's Palace in Monaco to receive a royal welcome by Prince Albert, the day before the Monaco Yacht Show.
The challenging but rewarding event will see cyclists cover over
1400 km and 19,000 metres of elevation while raising vital funds for BLUE's work.
The Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) is working to solve the
crisis of overfishing by creating marine reserves and sustainable models of fishing.
Over-fishing represents a major food security issue and has
devastating consequences for the fragile biodiversity of our planet. Around 90% of global fish stocks are fully or over-exploited and around 90% of large fish are gone. The consequences are far-reaching, not only for the future of food for a growing global population, but because healthy oceans absorb half the CO2 we produce.
BLUE aims to put 10% of the world's oceans under protection by 2020 and 30% by 2030.
Last year, we raised over £250,000 for crucial ocean conservation. Funds raised went to two projects: Aeolian Islands and Ascension Island.
We're hoping to raise even more funds for twice as many projects, including Ascension Island, Aeolian Islands, The Solent and Beyond Plastic Med.
Thank you so much for your support.
BLUE is able to receive donations from anyone based in the US which allows them to receive the tax benefits via our CAF America account. Please see the link below:
