Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Venice Marathon on Sunday 27 October and am taking the opportunity to raise money for Cancer Research UK. 1 in 3 people will develop cancer at some point in their lives and this statistic is getting worse, not better! With your help I hope to raise a token amount in order to help develop newer, kinder treatments and get close to cures.
Since the start of the year I've run the equivalent distance of a trip to Venice, with a stop off in Rome! That's over 1000 miles. As my wife Michelle said, "Other than abs of steel, the waistline of an 18 year old and incredible stamina, what do you have to show for it?"
But the question I've been asked by friends and colleagues has been "Should I donate £5 or £10 per mile you're going to run?". Now of course, for the non-accountants among you, that equates to £131 or £262. My reply is always the same..."Don't think about the 160 hours of training I've put in, and what that equates to per hour, or the suffering I've endured, think about the difference that your donation can make in the battle against cancer." Then I normally hobble away and look for some Ibuprofen.
Genuinely, anything you can contribute will be much appreciated and I guarantee I'll think about all donors and their huge donations between miles 22 and 23 on the run. That's a promise.
I would, however, like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my training - my understanding family and dog especially! Plus, all of the cities that have withstood my early morning plods - Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Belfast, Cefalu, Dundee, London, Poole and York to name a few.
