Story
Initially I was running the SDW100 just to prove I could, but I realise now that I could put my efforts to a much better use, by helping a good friends nephew recieve the life saving treatment he needs. A lot of us have children and can only imagine what it must be like to see them fighting for their life, so dig deep and lets give Ryan the chance he deserves, we need to raise £300,000 in order to send Ryan to Germany for potential life saving treatment.
Ryan is an extraordinary boy; he is 5 and a half and has been battling High Risk Neuroblastoma since the age of 22 months. We are fundraising for potentially life saving treatment which is not available to Ryan in the UK.
Ryan was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma MYC-N amplified in July 2008. He was out of treatment for just over a year when in November 2010 our lives were again turned upside down when we discovered the disease had returned in his bones and bone marrow. After a year of treatment re-staging scans in November 2011 showed that he had again achieved remission.
However just 3 months later, in February 2012, end of treatment scans gave us the devastating news that the disease has returned, this time with a tumour near his spine and he is about to start life saving radiotherapy in Bristol on Wednesday 14th March, at the same time he will be given chemotherapy after which the hope is that we can harvest his stem cells which will open up more treatment options.
A little bit about the race
Distance 100miles – Elevation 4000m – Cut-off 30hours
15% road / 85% trail
The SDW100 is a 100 mile continuous foot race taking in the entire south downs way national trail. The course travels along the chalk ridgeway, starting just outside of Winchester, the capital city of Saxon England and heading due east until the trail ends in Eastbourne. I have a personal goal to achieve this in under 24hrs, but just finishing would be good.
